Why is this robot smiling?

June 1, 2010

With a face as whimsical and carefree as its name, the JULIA robot was designed by the Advanced Control Lab at National Taiwan University as a fully interactive human companion. Sporting a chest-mounted touch screen display, the robot can respond to a number of voice commands that enable it to provide information (web browsing) or entertainment (digital music file retrieval and broadcasting).

JULIA also comes with an array of sensors that allow it to navigate home environments using NTU's real-time obstacle avoidance system. Perhaps the only thing preventing the JULIA from reaching the public is the fact that its creators have yet to announce a price or release date for the mainstream friendly robot.
